What Vitopril is and what it is used for

Vitopril contains an active substance called lisinopril, belongs to a group of medicines called ACE inhibitors (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors).

Your doctor has prescribed Vitodril for any of the following conditions:

treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension)
Treatment of heart failure
If you have had an acute myocardial infarction
If you have kidney complications in type II diabetes or as a result of high blood pressure.
Vitobril works by expanding your blood vessels, helping to lower blood pressure and making it easier for the heart to pump blood to all parts of the body.

2. What you need to know before you take Vitopril

Do not take Vitopril

If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to lisinopril or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
If you have had an allergic reaction to lisinopril or a similar medicine (ACE inhibitors) in the past. An allergic reaction may include symptoms such as swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, tongue or throat.
If you or a member of your family have previously been treated with a medicine of the same group as Vitopril (ACE inhibitors) and you have had an allergic reaction that has led to swelling of your hands, feet or ankles, lips, tongue and / or throat angioedema) or if you have had angioedema in other circumstances
If you are pregnant for more than 3 months (preferably avoid taking Vitopril and early pregnancy - see the Pregnancy section)
if you have diabetes or have impaired kidney function and are being treated with a medicine to lower blood pressure containing aliskiren.
If you are not sure if any of the listed conditions apply to you, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking Vitopril.

If you develop a dry cough that persists for a long time after starting treatment with Vitodril, tell your doctor.
