What is Postinor-Duo and what is it used?
Postinor-Duo is an emergency contraceptive that is administered after unprotected sexual intercourse or failed contraceptive method. This type of contraception is often called "morning after pill".
Postinor-Duo prevents about 84% of expected pregnancies when the two tablets were both 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected intercourse. Postinor-Duo does not prevent pregnancy in every case:
• The tablets are more effective when taken soon after unprotected intercourse
• This means that it is better to take the tablets one day (24 hours) after unprotected intercourse than to delay taking them until the third day (between 48 and 72 hours) after unprotected intercourse.
The action of Postinor-Duo is accomplished by:
• stops releasing an egg from the ovaries;
• prevent sperm from fertilising any eggs have already released;
Therefore, Postinor-Duo stops a pregnancy before it occurred. It does not work if you are already pregnant.
Postinor-Duo can help prevent pregnancy, but you should take two tablets as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours (three days) after unprotected intercourse.
2. What you need to know before taking Postinor-Duo?
Please ask your pharmacist before taking this medicine as emergency contraception may not be suitable for you.
If you are under 16, you should visit your doctor to get emergency contraception.
Postinor-Duo can be taken at anytime of the menstrual cycle, unless there is a delay in the onset of menstruation. If the onset of menstruation is late, you should consult your pharmacist.
Before taking this medication, your pharmacist can check whether you are pregnant by asking questions about your period or when you had sexual intercourse. If your pharmacist or you think you may be pregnant, you must take a pregnancy test.
Do not take Postinor-Duo:
• if you are allergic to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and Precautions
If any of these apply to you, tell your doctor before taking Postinor-Duo, as emergency contraception may not be suitable for you. Your doctor may prescribe another type of emergency contraception.
• If you have a disease of the small intestine (eg. Crohn's disease), which violates digestion;
• if you suffer from severe liver disease;
• if you are taking any of the medicines listed below, as these medicines may prevent proper operation of Postinor-Duo:

- Herbal products containing St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum);
• If you are taking a drug called cyclosporine (used to help the immune system).
In all women, emergency contraception should be taken as soon as possible after intercourse unprotected. There is some evidence that Postinor-Duo may be less effective with increasing body weight or body mass index (BMI), but these data are limited and inconclusive. Therefore Postinor-Duo is still recommended for all women, regardless of their weight or BMI.
We encourage you to talk with a medical professional if you are worried about possible problems with the implementation of emergency contraception.
