What is Imomed and what it is used for
Imoded is an antidiarrheal medicine that is used for short-term symptomatic treatment of acute disorder or with ongoing (chronic) diarrhea.
It also applies in case of diarrhea after surgical removal of a part of the intestine.
2. What you need to know before taking Imomed
Do not take Imomed:
if you are allergic to the active substance or any of the other ingredients;
in conditions where obstruction of bowel peristalsis should be avoided due to the risk of serious consequences. Such conditions are: swollen stomach, constipation and intercourse;
in a disorder accompanied by fever and / or stools with mucus and blood impurity;
inflammatory bowel disorder (ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis after antibiotic treatment);
in a disorder caused by certain intestinal bacteria;
in children under 6 years of age.
Warnings and precautions
Imomed's should be discontinued immediately in the presence of constipation, weight in the abdomen and development of intestinal obstruction.
In a disorder, a significant amount of fluids and electrolytes are lost. You should compensate for this loss by taking a lot more fluids than you would normally take. This is especially true for children.
In acute diarrhea, if 48 hours of improvement is not achieved, the use of Imomed should be discontinued and you should seek medical attention.
In case of impaired hepatic function, tell your doctor. You may need a strict medical check-up with Imomed.
In patients with AIDS who are treated with Imomed, if signs of swelling and abdominal pain develop, they should immediately discontinue and return to the treating physician.
Use in children
Children under 6 years of age should not be treated with Imomed, due to the high content of loperamid hydrochloride.
Other drugs and Imomed
Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines that delay the peristalsis of the stomach and intestine, as these may increase the effect of Imamed.
Although no clinical manifestations of loperamide have been reported with the following drugs: quinidine (for the treatment of arrhythmia), itraconazole and ketoconazole (for the treatment of fungal infections), gemfibrozil (for lipid lowering in the blood), rotavir HIV infections), the blood levels of lomoperamide are increased by concomitant administration.
Concomitant administration of loperamide with oral desmopressin (for the treatment of diabetes mellitus) results in increased blood desmopressin concentration.
