1 WHAT BONVIVA AND WHAT IT IS USED
BONVIVA injection belongs to a group of medicines called bisphosphonates. It does not contain hormones.
BONVIVA injection is supplied as a 3 mL colorless transparent solution in prefilled syringes for intravenous injection by a healthcare professional.
BONVIVA injection is prescribed for the treatment of osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a thinning and reduction of bone strength. It is common in women after menopause. In menopause, the ovaries stop producing the female hormone, estrogen, which helps to preserve the strength of her skeleton.
The earlier a woman enters menopause, the greater is the risk of osteoporosis.

Other factors that increase the risk include:
enough calcium and vitamin D in your diet smoking or drinking too much alcohol, not enough walking or other weight-bearing exercise presence of osteoporosis in the family.
Many patients with osteoporosis have no symptoms. If you have no symptoms, you may not know that you are suffering from this disease. However, osteoporosis makes you more likely to break bones when you fall or hurt. A broken bone after age 50 may be a sign of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis can also cause back pain, height loss and a curved back.
BONVIVA prevents bone loss due to osteoporosis, and helps to rebuild bone. Therefore BONVIVA also reduces the possibility of a fracture of the bone.
A healthy lifestyle will also help you to get maximum benefit from treatment. This includes a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, walking or other weight-bearing exercise and avoid smoking and drinking too much alcohol.
